Use an opal light bulb if you have an ordinary lamp shade or lamp and want an even, diffused distribution of light. The light it gives off is a shaded warm light, possibly not enough for reading but enough for the light you need for anything else.
They let out plenty of light and are long enough to cover our light bulbs (6 inch long energy saving ones, that have bulb-specific pendants put in by the landlord). The downside is that the way the light attaches to the ceiling is terrible, it doesn’t seem as though there is a way to finish the white plastic cone flush to the ceiling and for it to stay there, other light fittings have 2 tiny screws but this fitting has nothing other than a tensioner screw on the flex and when you google how to fix this it’s apparent this has been a long standing issue for ikea lights such as this. Very easy to assemble and hang, and they aren't overly obvious - you have to point them out for people to notice they are Death Stars! Since I haven't found an Instructable of this project here, I thought I will give it a try for my first time. Definitely need more explanation of installation and also specify that it takes 2 people to put up as you need more than 2 hands to hold, hook, pull cord and screw.Once you're satisfied with the look of your pattern, you can paint a darker shade of paint over the whole ball.

IKEA uses recycled PET that is post-consumer based, which means it is based on collected and sorted PET bottles. For example, they say it looks really effective, is good for the purpose, and works great on ceiling lights. I have Star Wars cushions and wanted something to match that wasn't overly obvious and these are perfect. I decided this would be easier with an extra pair of hands holding the mechanism while I put it together. Only a very limited pieces are, and will be in existence, so if you are planning to shoot out some stars in the future, or just simply your guests are not behaving well, then it is your time to set up your home with laser shooting dark forces.
