Description

Craigellachie Scotch Whisky brings aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, roasted pineapple and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of cordite lingering in the background. It’s taking that base spirit and turning the more potent zingy notes to maximum; the underneath remains identifiably familiar, but with a top-coat of big fresh lime juice. I feel weightless and nothing hurts; cascading citrus sunrays split the hazy horizon and I know then that this Craigellachie, bought at the suggestion of a new whisky acquaintance, is one of the more resonant drams I’ve tried in a while.

Behold, the Craigellachie 13 Years Old Armagnac Cask Finish, a remarkable departure from the ordinary. We'll send them to be recycled and you'll save paper, carbon emissions and time at the recycling centre! For example, I really enjoyed the Bladnoch Vinaya and a Cadenhead’s Warehouse Tasting Ben Nevis 9yo, finished in a Manzanilla sherry cask, has me swooning.

Other distilleries with worm tubs include Talisker, the new Rosebank, Royal Lochnagar, Dalwhinnie, Edradour, Oban, Glenkinchie, Springbank and Pultney. The nose follows suit, with sweet floral and fruity notes, a touch of pineapple and mango, while the palate opens up into symphony of sweet, creamy notes balanced by smoke and leather with a dash of crisp acidity. is stonkingly good and a recent sample of a Tomatin hand-fill 17yo, matured entirely in an ex-sherry cask was like smelling a biryani curry and drinking cherry tiffin wrapped around a raw honey core. Craigellachie 13 Year Old is one of the three 2014 releases, and it is a bold and rich dram with exquisite taste. Each sip of Craigellachie whisky delivers a captivating sensory experience, revealing layers of flavor that exemplify the spirit of Speyside.Whisky is a place, from the amount I’ve been exposed to, where everyone has an immediate and empathetic connection to all whisky enthusiasts, regardless of how rudimentary or advanced you are. However, a more detailed review of the process demonstrates significant differences between Aramgnac wine heaters and coolers and the worm tub, but there are indeed similarities. Bonfire night: aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of sulphury, cordite lingering in the background. It takes a while for the smell to start registering - maybe the whisky needs that life-line of oxygen to get the motor going again, but when it does, it’s all zing and sharp edges. Suggestions came thick and fast, but the ones that interested me were Tomatin, Glenglassaugh and Craigellachie – three distilleries I’d yet to try. Now allowed to shine in its own light, Craigellachie is shown to be a chunky, spicy single malt full of character. In the Craigellachie Cask Finishing Collection, one can find the Craigellachie 13 Year Old Bas-Armagnac Cask, a unique addition that pays homage to their traditional worm tubs. What makes Craigellachie Distillery truly unique is its unwavering commitment to crafting whiskies with a bold and characterful nature.

Craigellachie 13 Year may be light in colour, but this beautifully crafted formula packs a punch when it comes to flavour. These are traditionally large wooden vessels full of water in which the whisky passes via coiled copper pipes to cool on its journey to the spirit safe. Craigellachie Distillery's commitment to craftsmanship and the unique character of its whiskies make it a sought-after destination for whisky enthusiasts looking for a bold and unforgettable Speyside experience.
