Description

The difference being that there is no case of mistaken identity and being an astrophysicist, Carmichael does not need to rely on dumb luck to get himself out of a situation.

Director Cy Endfield mishandles the jokier aspects of the plot, in which a scientist working on a top secret project is presumed to have defected when, in actuality, he's been kidnapped. We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. Not exactly the Ministry of Defence, this is the entrance to the Anatomy Building of University College London on Gower Street.Unknown to them, Garrett has rigged the alarm on his wristwatch to cause the boat to explode, killing the three henchmen. I haven’t seen my acquaintance for quite a few years, but Hide and Seek is the eighth Cy Endfield film I have watched over the last two or three years. He finds two life jackets in the boat, and it appears to Marek (watching from the hotel with binoculars) that Garrett and Maggie are attempting to swim to a nearby island with a castle. Facing south towards Grove Bridge (No 164) on the Grand Union Canal near Chandlers Cross, Hertfordshire located by Anthony Spencer.

Garrett is starting to doubt he is in the correct place, when he sees Maggie talking to Richter and finds a room upstairs with a chessboard that is missing the knight piece he has.

Maggie deliberately reads the road sign incorrectly and makes them walk in the opposite direction to where they should be going. When they approach the car they find the driver is Richter, who forces them into the car at gunpoint and they drive towards an isolated cliff top. King's Parade appear in 'Nothing But the Best' and a similar view can be seen in 'Out of the Shadow' and 'Franklyn'. They head down to the shore, where Garrett finds that he cannot identify the correct key to unlock a small motorboat. The story concerns a chemist (Ian Carmichael) who falls for a girl (Janet Munro), but she traps him to a seaside hideaway where he is to be shanghaied and sold to a foreign power.

Cy Endfield directed this small comedy-thriller quite some time before his epic film, "Zulu", but it was not released until some six months after that large-scale production. Ian Carmichael, Janet Munro and Curd Jürgens star in Cy Endfield’s thriller about a Cambridge professor who becomes involved in an dangerous game of cat and mouse while trying to track down an old friend. Sadly, the decidedly naff title did summarise and embody the film only too well, both as regards final product and as a description of the plot.

The random occurrences circumvent this intention and before we know it he has met Janet Munro and is in Yorkshire. Ian Carmichael has the performance of his career playing the nigh wrong man-esque physics professor out on a flimsy spy plot. Marek has "sold" Garrett to the Russians for his knowledge and has arranged for a submarine to come before dawn to take him away. Alongside him is the lively Janet Munro, and the two make enjoyable company as the plot carries off rather well. Ian Carmichael was apparently disappointed with the production of this vehicle that neither knows not cares what it is meant to be.
