I have no real inclination for anything royalty related so went into this novel with lowered anticipation. One aspect to Warwick that I did appreciate was his dedication to reading stories to his children at bedtime (when he happened to be around at that time). Next in Line is the first book I've read in the Detective William Warwick series and I believe I would have enjoyed it more had I first read the previous four books in the series.His 1974 bestseller Kane and Abel sold 24 million copies, became a CBS miniseries, and ushered his comeback into politics.

In fact, during the last 50 pages, when everything comes to a head, I felt that I was just plodding along trying to get the book finished.
