On all outdoor ice rinks there is a risk of getting soggy as there is often surface water on the ice. If you fall over, you will probably get wet so you may wish to bring a change of trousers, just in case. Please note that you will need to bring proof of ID to the rink, for verification, on arrival. Failure to provide your ID at the rink will result in you either having to pay for the session or being refused entry.

Parent and toddler session: 40-minute non-skating ice-play sessions for kids aged between 18 months and 5 years, with plenty of toys to play with. There is a maximum of one adult per child; one adult may supervise up to two children. These take place on various mornings throughout the season. Adults go free. See our ice skating timetable for details. Cloakrooms are used entirely at your own risk. Arena Group does not accept any liability for loss, theft or damage except if caused by intent or gross negligence of the company or its employees.

We recommend that you book each of your sessions in advance, so that we can guarantee you can secure your session. If you choose to go the rink without booking, if there is space you will be allowed on, but if the session is sold out you will not be able to skate. You may be able to hire a skate aid at the rink, subject to availability. They are very popular, so we recommend booking one in advance. Spectators will be able to view the rink and the skaters from around the perimeter. To spectate is free. Outdoor ice rinks are subject to the elements and due to rain, unseasonably warm weather or high winds, the surface of the ice rink can develop a layer of water. It’s perfectly safe to skate on a wet rink, but it might be uncomfortable if you fall over – and you will get wet if it’s raining! It can also be slippery when getting up if you fall, which is why we recommend wearing gloves.

Bags of any description are not allowed on the ice. Please ensure you only bring essential items with you to the rink as storage space is limited in the cloakrooms. There are nine disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders in the Palace car park, available on a first come first served basis. These parking spaces are free for blue badge holders.

General skating: 40-minute skating sessions for skaters of any ability and age (over 18 months). You can hire skating aids to give that extra stability to young children - additional charge applies. Skate aids are available to help children with balance and their skating – we do not have skate aids available for adults. Removing the water from the surface is counterproductive as it removes the layer of cold water that is insulating the ice below it. That exposes the ice to further melting, and affects the ice depth. Bob skates help young kids with their mobility on the ice. They help keep young children from worrying about falling and thus make skating less intimidating. This leads to confidence and, along with the all the appropriate safety gear—including a helmet—allows a youngster to begin developing balance at an earlier age. Bob Skates Strap to Street Shoes Children over the age of 14 may skate on their own. Children aged between 4 and 14 must be accompanied on the ice and remain supervised by an adult. A maximum of 2 children are allowed on the ice with one responsible adult aged 18 and over. Unfortunately, children under 4 years old are not permitted to skate. Our rink team will do our utmost to accommodate you if you are running late, although we can’t guarantee we can get you on the ice if it’s a peak session that is at full capacity.
