Another popular Spanish beer is San Miguel. San Miguel is a pale lager that is also made with malted barley and hops. It is a light and refreshing beer that is perfect for drinking on a hot day. Originating from Granada and characterised by its green-coloured bottle, this beer has an alcohol content of 6.8%. It is known for its unique caramelised flavour and its perfect, refreshing bitter finish. Full-bodied with balanced flavours. Price for a 33cl bottle: €1.00. Amongst them is the ‘Montseny Mala Vida Chili’, a Catalan beer, described as complex and dense, with spiced notes geared toward dark beer enthusiasts. Another worth mentioning is the Madrilenian ‘La Virgen de Castañas’, which is a beer with high fermentation, created via a unique process using roasted chestnuts that are peeled by hand. Last but not least, there is ‘La Sagra Blanca de Trigo,’ a light-coloured beer with high fermentation which boasts a fruity floral aroma with hints of citrus. Lagunitas is one of the few craft brewers that is still growing at a rapid pace, and there is no sign that the company is slowing down. In fact, Lagunitas is currently building a new brewery in Chicago that will be the largest in the United States.San Miguel beer goes best with: Gambas a la Plancha – prawns sautéed in salsa negra or garlic, cured cheese topped with anchovies. From Zaragoza, this beer is made in a century-old beer factory in the Aragon capital. It comes in a wide selection of flavours, the most popular of which is Especial, a lager with low fermentation, producing an easy-to-drink beer with a very pleasant flavour. Strength: 5.2%. Beer is a beloved beverage all across Spain, the warm weather and an icy cold beer easily go hand in hand.Sitting down to a plate or table full of tapas on a hot and humid Spanish afternoon, sipping on a cold glass of light beer is a tradition not to be skipped. That said, the drunk driving laws in Spain are very strict. The blood alcohol maximum limit in Spain is 0.5 milligrams of alcohol per millilitre of blood, compared to .8 in Britain. It’s even lower if you drive a passenger vehicle or if you have had your driver’s license for less than 2 years. The penalty for drunk driving can be at least 3-6 months in prison, community service, a suspension of your licence, or a hefty fine. How much do they drink in Spain? Villa de Madrid brewery and their popular Chula Sin, the country’s first non-alcoholic craft beer. They also have a delicious wheat beer called Cheli and a very strong ale called Ziva 2.0. Spain is the fourth-largest beer producer in Europe, with around 37 million hectolitres consumed in 2015, of which almost 35 million come from national producers. Spain’s local producers ensure that there is a beer to suit every season and all its local’s needs and tastes. Due to so much of the beer being produced on home turf, the local beers are usually really affordable and of a decent quality. Lagunitas is a family-owned business, and it is still operated by Magee and his wife, Margaret. The company has grown rapidly over the past few years, and it now employs more than 500 people.
